Your Greatest Asset is Your Time

Every day, you will receive the same amount of time as every person on this planet and that is 24 hours. How you spend it is up to you, but just remember, it is something you can never get back and that is why your greatest asset is your time.

The difference between a person who is successful and one that is not is the value they put on their time. They realise that they have to use it well and not to waste it on irrelevant tasks. To become more efficient and successful, you need to pinpoint those tasks and start to spend less time on them or eliminate them altogether. You can never add to your load. The only way to free up time is to remove meaningless tasks and work with the ones that are going to move you forward.

It is so easy to procrastinate and all of us do it. Doing simple tasks will initially give you a feeling of bite size achievements, but you know in your own mind they are never going to take you anywhere, anytime soon. It is vital to your success to tackle important tasks that might initially make you feel uncomfortable when thinking about them, but when you start to overcome them, you will begin to achieve and succeed in life’s great game.

As explained in his book, “Eat That Frog”, time management expert and consultant Brian Tracy explains that if you start the day by eating it, then everything else will seem small by comparison. Just my staring at it, won’t make it go away. What is your frog? When you ask yourself this question and decide to get it over with, you will feel an amazing sense of self esteem, of achieving something of real value.

It is also so important to reward yourself when you complete important tasks. Either give yourself a treat at the end of the task or if it is going to take some time to complete, then reward yourself in stages. At this point, you will realise that your greatest asset is indeed your time and you are now using it to maximum efficiency. Before long you will forego these rewards, as scientific research has proven that as you complete tasks or goals, endorphins are released to make you feel great and wanting more. This is a reward in itself! The bigger the achievement, the bigger the buzz you will feel.

In conclusion, your greatest asset is your time, but the management of it is an essential core life skill that is not easily mastered. There is a wealth of information on the subject and it is an ongoing education that should become a major part of your overall plan. Procrastination will always be a part of your development, but don’t let it get in the way of your lifetime goals.
